পহেলা বৈশাখ বাংলা নববর্ষের প্রথম দিন — বাংলাদেশ ও বাঙালি সংস্কৃতির সবচেয়ে উজ্জ্বল উৎসব। নতুন হিসাব, রঙিন শোভাযাত্রা, পান্তা ভাত ও সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানে ভরে ওঠে দেশজুড়ে। Pohela Boishakh marks the first day of the Bengali New Year—Bangladesh’s brightest cultural festival. Halkhata, colourful processions, panta bhat, and performances fill the nation with joy.

মুঘল আমলে কৃষি ও রাজস্ব ব্যবস্থার সুবিধার্থে বাংলা সনের প্রচলন শুরু হয় এবং বৈশাখ মাসের প্রথম দিন নতুন হিসাব বছরের সূচনা হিসেবে গুরুত্ব পায়। বাংলা একাডেমির ১৯৮৭ সালের পঞ্জিকা সংস্কারের পর বাংলাদেশে পহেলা বৈশাখ প্রতি বছর ১৪ এপ্রিল পালিত হয়। পাকিস্তান আমলের ১৯৬০-এর দশকে এই উৎসব বাঙালি সংস্কৃতি ও পরিচয়ের প্রতীক হিসেবে নতুন মাত্রা লাভ করে। বর্তমানে ঢাকার রমনার বটমূলে ছায়ানটের বর্ষবরণ অনুষ্ঠান, মঙ্গল শোভাযাত্রা এবং দেশব্যাপী বৈশাখী মেলা পহেলা বৈশাখ উদযাপনের অন্যতম প্রধান আকর্ষণ।The Bengali calendar was introduced during the Mughal period to support agricultural and revenue administration, and the first day of Boishakh became the traditional beginning of a new accounting year. Following the 1987 Bangla Academy calendar reform, Pohela Boishakh has been observed in Bangladesh on 14 April each year. During the 1960s, the festival gained renewed significance as a symbol of Bengali cultural identity. Today, Chhayanaut’s New Year celebration at Ramna Batamul, the Mangal Shobhajatra procession, and Boishakhi fairs across the country are among the most iconic features of the celebration.

Merchants open halkhata ledgers; families share sweets and greetings; artists welcome the year with “Eshe ho Boishakh.” In agrarian life it also marks a fresh seasonal and harvest cycle.
